Chapbooks
A chapbook is a small paperback booklet, typically containing poems or fiction by a single author.
In an effort to continue collaborating with our contributors after we’ve sold through copies of The Thalweg, we created Smolt: a chapbook publishing project through which past contributors can publish more of their work. These are small books, featuring one author or artist, or small collaborations from previous contributors.
In rivers, a smolt is a young anadromous fish—a salmon or trout—after the parr stage. It becomes silvery and migrates to the sea for the first time.
Each issue of The Thalweg is a representation of a creative community thinking about landscape and livelihood. With chapbooks published through Smolt, we’re eager to dive deeper into the various textures a single contributor creates through their work.
Profits from chapbooks go directly to the author.
